You can use .NET MAUI to build native mobile and desktop apps for Android, iOS, macOS and Windows from a single code base. However, .NET MAUI doesn’t officially support Linux. What is possible today is to use .NET MAUI in Visual Studio Code on Linux to deploy Android apps only.
Considering that .NET MAUI is an open-source framework, which supports Windows and MacOS, it’s not surprising that the developer community is asking about Linux development with .NET MAUI. What’s more, some of .NET MAUI’s competitors do support Linux. However, Microsoft hasn’t announced any plans involving such a feature as of mid-2024.
You can still take advantage of .NET MAUI’s benefits as a cross-platform framework for building native mobile and desktop apps from a shared code base by working on a Windows or a Mac machine. If you decide to do that, you can start building apps with .NET MAUI much faster by using ready-to-use .NET MAUI controls instead of building everything from scratch.
